Being the huge Disney freak that I am, I was extremely excited when I got the chance to watch the exhilarating and heart-warming film Big Hero 6.
The true star in this film is a ten-foot inflatable robot named Baymax who resides in the city of San Fransokyo with his human friend, robotics prodigy, Hiro Hamada. For starters, it isn’t a Disney animated film if the parents are in the picture; Hiro lives at home with Tadashi, his brother, and Cas, his mother-figured aunt.
At his own robotics laboratory in school, Tadashi, student inventor, created Baymax after eons of hard work and gave this white-plush like robot a sole purpose: to take care of people. It is until the plot takes a devastating and dramatic turn that completely changes Hiro’s perspective on life itself; his role-model brother is caught in a mysterious fire, catalyzing Hiro’s revenge.
Seeking comfort and companionship, Baymax comes to Hiro’s rescue.
Tadashi’s old robotics team consists of fiery GoGo Tomago, tidy Wasabi, hyper chemistry whiz Honey Lemon, and ultimate fanboy Fred who eventually all become Hiro’s closest friends. He groups up with them to create a band of high-tech heroes and ends up naming themselves Big Hero 6.
Throughout the movie we follow Hiro around on the hunt to catch the culprit who caused such a tragedy, but it takes a few upgrades to get Baymax up to the crime-fighting levels. What ensues after is an action-packed and inspiring story of a boy and his robot and the bond that they develop.
Overall, this film is a huge emotional rollercoaster. The rather distinctive moral of the story, Baymax, who was specifically made to heal not hurt, influences the rest of the characters in positive ways, which makes this animated movie a hit. Big Hero 6 is the perfect blend of action, comedy, and emotion all at once. With its refreshingly different cast and uplifting message, this film is truly a fascinating adventure for the entire family. I give Big Hero 6 a strong 5 out of 5.
