Cinderella is a live-action and modern rendition of Disney’s classic animated tale. As a child, Ella, played by Lily James, has a sweet attachment to both her parents. It’s until she loses her mother that makes her life take a drastic turn–but she will never forget the words she told her: have courage and be kind. And so, she takes those words with her in hopes to keep and practice the promise.
After Ella’s mother passed away, her father (played by Ben Chaplin), asked Ella if he were allowed to have a second chance at love. She slightly hesitates but completely understands and is supportive of her father finding happiness once again. Here is where the evil stepmother and ugly step-daughters are brought into the film and the constant grief begins.
I don’t want to say much about this fantastic film simply because you should just buy the ticket and enjoy the gorgeousness that it provides. BUT, let me just say, I have seen the movie three times already and have officially fallen in love with it. The vivid colors, the scenery, and the costumes contribute a whole lot to the plot and just the film itself. It is all truly, absolutely breathtaking.
I also love how Disney leaves little clues throughout the film; Cinderella’s door is designed with Mickey heads, her dress has butterflies across the neckline which symbolizes her father, and Lady Tremaine constantly wearing green, black, and gold to symbolize her envy, grief, and wealth. Also, you can spot Princess Tiana dancing right behind Cinderella and Prince Charming in their ballroom scene. All of these subtle hints and embodiment make the film all the more enjoyable.
I recommend this movie to people of all ages, especially for anyone who is seeking just a little bit of magic. I give this film five out of five stars.
